Ms. Katie Ackels is a litigation attorney with broad experience for a diverse client base.  Her primary practice areas are business litigation, employment litigation defense, personal injury litigation defense, and healthcare litigation.  Ms. Ackels has handled professional liability and malpractice claims for healthcare professionals, lawyers, real estate agents, design professionals, and insurance brokers.  She also has extensive general liability experience, representing individuals and entities in personal injury, business, and commercial litigation matters involving negligence, DTPA, fraud, breach of fiduciary duty, breach of contract, warranty, premises liability, and wrongful death claims.  Additionally, Katie has advised and defended insurers, reinsurers, and managing general agents in coverage and bad faith matters.

Early on in her legal career, Ms. Ackels practiced with a national healthcare boutique where she advised clients regarding matters involving Medicaid eligibility and reimbursement, regulatory compliance and liability defense, collections and probate litigation, and administrative law.  In law school, she also gained formative experience at the federal and state levels, spending time working for the United States Attorney’s Office and the State Office of Administrative Hearings, where her work focused on Medicare fraud and matters before the Texas Medical Board.  Prior to pursuing a legal career, Katie worked in the healthcare and real estate fields and believes that this experience benefits her clients through her ability to identify the business and operational concerns affected by the law.  She has a passion for advocating for her clients and helping her clients resolve issues in an efficient manner, both from a time and cost perspective.

Katie Ackels graduated magna cum laude from Texas Tech University School of Law, where she was Executive Managing Editor of the Texas Tech Law Review, a member of Phi Delta Phi Legal Honors Society, and a founding member of the Organization of Women Law Students.  Ms. Ackels holds a BA in English from Texas Lutheran University, where she was an Honors Program Graduate, a member of Alpha Chi National Honor Society and president of Kappa Pi Gamma sorority.

Katie grew up in in the Texas Hill Country in Johnson City.  She now lives in the Oak Cliff area of Dallas with her husband Sam, whom she met in law school and who practices law with the long-standing Dallas firm of Ackels & Ackels, LLP.  Katie and Sam have two children, Henry and Emilia, and spend most of their time chasing the kids around, watching the Rangers or Cowboys, and trying to catch a live music show.
