Board Certified in Health Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization
Scott Chase has practiced health law, corporate, international and intellectual property law for over 40 years, and has served as General Counsel for 2 public companies, including a large hospital management company. Mr. Chase is a partner at Farrow-Gillespie Heath Witter LLP where he leads its healthcare practice. In 2002, he was among the first 28 Texas lawyers to be Board Certified in Health Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization and continues to have such certification. His work includes being an expert witness in health and corporate law matters, a mediator and hearing officer in peer review matters, and an arbitrator in provider reimbursement matters.
Mr. Chase is consistently listed as a Texas Monthly Super Lawyer (a Thomson Reuters service), included in Best Lawyers in America for 17 years and D Magazine Best Lawyers in Dallas. He is a recipient of Dallas Association of Young Lawyers’ 2012 Foundation Award of Excellence for community service and legal activities.
His primary focus is business transactions for physicians and healthcare facilities, as well as regulatory issues such as HIPAA and peer review. Because of his regulatory experience, he lectures on the background and substance of the Affordable Care Act. He also handles general corporate matters, website advertising/privacy compliance, and trademark/copyright issues for a variety of non-healthcare clients.
In addition to being a founding member of the Dallas Bar Association (DBA) Health Law, Corporate Counsel and Franchise Law Sections, he chaired its Corporate Counsel, Health Law, and Solo and Small Firm Sections. Mr. Chase also served as President of the Dallas Association of Young Lawyers and chaired the DBA House, Community Involvement, Membership, Memorial and History, and Peer Assistance Committees and helped build 25 DBA-sponsored Habitat for Humanity houses. He is a member of various other DBA committees, e.g., Law Day and Law in the Schools, where he is a lecturer, for over 25 years, on the U.S. Constitution and Declaration of Independence to schools in Dallas Independent School District.
